If your case is closed, you are at risk of losing this labor. Quickly get your lawyer to try and find out why it is closed and see if you can get it reopened.

That is not what I gather from the postings here. Please read them again. Not sure if it is a valid fact, though.

In the interest of its MI members, and those from other states who may be exposed to similar risk if such laws become more widely adopted by other states, IV should issue a strong statement against it articulating the issues legal immigrants will face.

What was feared has come true. MI SOS (DMV) has passed the rule denying DLs to newer applicants on Temporary visas. Rules are yet to be made for renewals. But based on statements by SOS Terri Ann Lynd, I wouldn't be surprised if Temporary visa holders are denied DLs too ( since the rule will be based on interpretation of MI law by State Attorney General which says that only permanent residents can be given DL in Michigan)

Ms. Lynd hopes temporary visa holders can drive using home country licences. She doesn't understand that Indians need IDLs too, which they can get only in their home country. She doesn't understand that many may not have DLs in their home countries (esp. Indians who came here as students) . I'm not surprised if mine has expired by now! For getting IDL we need to go back to our home country and get it from there. This is the gift by State of Michigan to immigrants on the occassion of day to remember the greatest humanitarian of our times - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

yes I did mention to them... Not only job but medical reasons... But their point is once it goes in to Print facility those jobs are sequenced and cant be expedited. Congressman office gave them a call again.. they are doing their best... USCIS knows there are delays and there is some thing seriously wrong becoz most of demand of EAD's demand already gone. It might be attributed to some failure on ICPS during October after 8th through 25th and all the backlog is being pumped out now I still have 2 weeks hope it will turn around by then.
Since they have fine print of 30 days they are assuming that's their legitimate time to print and send out and they are covered.
Not to mention IV's help.

do you really think their lobbying is to support us. Employers are lobbying for EB relief only because they dont want their H-1bs to leave. Rest assured they will not be withdrawing their efforts anytime soon.
As I see Prof. Matloff's floated his ideas long time back and found no takers..That pig ain't gonna fly..Now the decision we have to make is do we want to pursue this mirage of Prof. Matloff's utopia ..or do we concentrate on the bill that we did get through the senate last may and got stuck in House....
At least all concerned parties at this point know these bills CIR/SKIL..They are tired of discussing those two bills too...All we need is a suger daddy in the House..
You float a new proposal and the whole 'disco' would start again.Then some senators/congress men would start asking for more hearings and more roadshows and what not...That becomes an open ended fiasco...
Remember we got to get the bill before next August...Otherwise the Presidential election season would start and no one would look at our pig...

I just called NSC and they took my information and stated that some one will get back to me in 2 weeks time via email. They stated that there is no information on the system so far. Will update once I c any changes or get an email.

I strongly believe that the recent push by business community (200 + 900 industry, hospital, and University), Aila, and IV will make some results in coming weeks.
I hope you are right. If the industry prevails and the H1Bs are increased along with EB visas, we have no complaints. Unfortunately, many of the newly elected Dems took a hard line on middle class wages and H1Bs. It will be hard for the industry to convince these people. They are against the H1Bs, not against giving relief to people like us stuck in a long waiting line. If it were easy to convince these democrats, we would have seen immigration in Nancy Pelosi's plan and seen something planned for the lame duck session ("coming weeks") as well. But we don't:(
And I don't agree that 400K is a small number. If even 200K started sending emails and meeting lawmakers, we are likely to get our voice heard. Only about 15 people have sent an email to CBS so far :(

Guys , when i called up today for I-485 petitions for USCIS i was little bit worried when first officer informed me of the process and she explained why we are not receiving receipt numbers.
But after 20 min long discussion with her i was little worried and thus want to share this info for your comments.
As per her" USCIS will wait for all 485 petitions , and assign them visa numbers as per availability , she told me that they exhausted all visa numbers on june 26 2007. and they are going to receive all unused numbers on aug 17 and will assign accordingly for all cases who are considered for adjudication.
If they run out of visa numbers again during this process they will return applications saying apply after October 2007.
After going though i couldnt believe myself and i called them back to enquire about the same. another officer told me the same that this is the update they have. If this is the case is USCIS really accepting or playing with us ? i dont understand at all. Out of curiocity again i asked my friend and he reported same info. I dont want to rise panic flag with this info but just share and request your comments. please.

I'm not worried about the difference between the two tools. One of them says I will get a greencard next month. The other one says I will get it next year.
My lawyer says BOTH are over-optimistic.
I know it's a tough question, but what is the probability of the USCIS tool being correct(with no spillover correction)?

All, Thank you guys (IneedAllGreen, jfredr, vikki76, werc, dan19, kumar_77) to each one of you.
I have two previous educational evaluations for my previous two jobs in US. They did mention that I was granted an advance standing in to BTech program and my attorney seemed to think the very mention of the diploma makes it NOT a singular degree.
It seemed very logical for the evaluator to mention the diploma while equating my degree to US bachelors degree because that is why I was able to finish my degree in three years instead of 4. If Attorney mis-understood it , God knows how the NSC adjudicator will interpret that.
I was hoping for some one to share their wisdom in similar situations.
