Today I got a letter from USCIS office at Lee's Summit, MO stating that it would cost app $5000 for the customozed computer program to retrive the data.

I know you have done a lot for IV.. no body needs to vouch that.. i have seen you in action..but.. i disagree with you on only one thing, calling names.. I understand your frustration, but as a leader you cannot set a bad example... No leader has ever got people to do the right things by calling them names.. while your intent is right, you have done more harm than good by starting this flame war..
I guess the right thing to do for the texas chapter is to call the members and find out what happened. We have chapter members phone number right?
I myself was slated to attend the MO chapter meeting, but could not do so and I called the co-ordinator to let her know..

I have said what I have felt. I am not going to be politically correct, never have been. This is not a forum for pracitising genteel speeches, pampering and politically correct messages.
If you RSVP that "I will come" and the host prepares entire day for meeting, makes her daughter skip the extra carricular activities, ends up using better part of weekend for an event she is thinking will be attended by you, but you dont show up even and dont even bother to call they you are cancelling, then you ought to be ashamed of yourself. If you do something like that in your workplace, then you will get fired. If you signup for a volunteer training/conference on behalf of your company, get company to book your travel, make them spend time/money and then on day of travel, you dont even show up at the airport and attend conference/training that you volunteered to attend, then you will get fired. You wont get fired from Immigration Voice and there are no personal consequence to your bad, lousy manners therefore its afforable to do so, and so you can do it.
If you think EAD is the end of the road and you are free now with AC21 options BUT on the contrary you feel more and more need to visit forums here, on Khanna portal, on Murthy's forums/chats then probably you are wrong, you are not free. You are still bound by strings that restrain your mobility and freedom.
LURKERS : And finally, if the only reason (and this is the most common reason) for not volunteering or participating in activities or contributions is that you are afraid of USCIS or some agency retaliating against your pending 485, and the problem is cowardice. The most common reason why we have 3 times more "visitors" then logged in members is that "visitors" are afraid of the government in the most democratic and free country in the world. I need you to login so that I can get email and information about you so that I can seek your help. And I dont need your help for my own personal gain. Very good. If I can go, I am sure you can go too. If I can afford to buy some plane tickets, you can too. If I can take a day off, you can do it too. This little time and money is nothing compared to your next few visits to your attorney's office when is time to renew that I am sure you're tired of doing.
I want to do it for my family, you do it for your family and then educate somebody else so they can go too. Next thing you know, we'll be a lot and we'll be heard.

I think I-485 filing clause is needed. Please note that the USCIS is not staffed enough. So there is a high possibility that the priority date retrogression will continue even if all the current provisions included in the Frist bill is passed. They will retain the retrogression in order to control the number of applications. In such a scenario, it is important for us to try and introduce the I-485 clause, so that people could get their EAD while they wait for USCIS to clear the mess. My 2 cents.

Therefore if worst comes to worst we will see a backlog at the USCIS level again, ie their processing time will go way beyond today's 6 months. BUt if the DOS believes that they have enough GC available to meet the demand in each and every particular quarter they will adjust cut-off dates accordingly.

India would be a good option for an Indian. For others I still think Canada and Australia are are the best options after US, in terms of standard of living, quality of life etc. It will take India decades more to achieve the same standards.

Assuming this discussion is about immigration/permanent-settlement and not about short term visits, work and study.
On the side note, The only problem faced in india is over population which triggers almost all other issues. If india implements onechildpolicy most of the problems faced today will disappear in few decades. Your child (note: singular) need not leave india to enjoy international level lifestyle & benefits.
As a backup plan to greencard advocacy we need to lobby the indian government to implement onechildpoilcy immediately.

If your 485 is pending for less than 180 days, you are taking a risk. Its a calculated risk but most of the time there are no issues. In such a case , you will join a new employer and continue the process. If a RFE is raised within the 180 day period, you are in trouble. But realistically, your case is hardly worked on in the first 180 days. Once 180 days have passed, you can use AC21. A lot of people have done it in the past - and have been lucky.
2. From my understanding, the process needs to restart. However, do I have to do something to withdraw pending I-485.
If you absolutely want to do everything from scratch, yes you can withdraw your application. But its not a requirement to restart the clock until you have to.
3. Will it be termed as denied I-485 and create problems if I apply new I-485 with new employer?
No issues on your next 485 filing.

I guess the cat is out of the bag. Yes, I got my greencard a few weeks ago. Yes, my PD is early 2004.
There are 2 current theories why:-
1. I'm very vocal in the media and lawmakers about the problem, and something made this happen (as my co-workers say "they gave it to you to shut you up")
2. I was a lucky one that was assigned a visa number in early June (when I applied for AOS) - it was approved when my PD was not current.
I'm not going anywhere, nothing has changed with the current policy. It is still broken. If for no other reason, the bizarre circumstances around my GC highlight more unpredictability and uncertainty in the whole process. I hadn't mentioned it before since it really isn't a big deal in the big picture.
